Whip, Whistle & Watch
Luncheon Kicks Off
Barnum Festival on Friday, May 23
The annual Whip, Whistle & Watch Luncheon
marks the official kick-off of the 2008 Barnum
Festival. Let the festivities begin on Friday, May 23
from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Bridgeport Holiday Inn,
1070 Main Street. As part of the circus pageantry
surrounding this event, Ringmaster Mark Lauretti will
receive his symbols of office – a whip, whistle and P.T.
Barnum’s pocket watch.
Come help us celebrate the 60th
anniversary of the Barnum Festival, one of the largest
festivals in the state and this year’s theme, “A Salute
To Our Military and Old Glory.” Tickets cost $50 each
and are available by calling the Bridgeport Regional
Business Council at 335-3800. The deadline for
reservations is May 16 and checks should be made payable
to the PT Barnum Foundation.
The major sponsor of the luncheon is R.D.
Scinto, Inc. and table sponsors are: Fletcher-Thompson,
Inc., The Ganim Group, United Illuminating and
Wheelabrator Bridgeport, L.P.
The Barnum Festival was created in 1949
to make people feel good about celebrating the life and
times of P.T. Barnum, who was born on July 5. Nearly 25
annual Barnum Festival events salute Barnum and the
people and events that made him the greatest showman on
earth. The mega-celebration includes parades, concerts,
parties, drum corps and the fireworks extravaganza at
Seaside Park. Please call the Barnum Festival at
203-367-8495 or log on to
