"IMAGES IN TIME" |
The Brigadiers' 2007 program provides an
opportunity to glimpse both past and future glories.
Using "As Time Goes By" as a melodic continuum, the 2007
program weaves through time as the Corps recalls fond
memories and makes new ones with this dynamic program.
After the introduction of "As Time Goes By" (and listen
for hints of "Shangri La" and "Black Saddles"), the
Brigs attack "Spanish Fantasy," the opening production
from the Brigs' record-setting campaign. With a new
visual treatment and staging, along with the fire of
Wayne Downey's re-worked brass arrangement, this
production is sure to re-start the energies of
Brigadiers past.
The next memory to be awakened is the hauntingly
beautiful "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face," the
quintessential Brigadiers' ballad. Evoking the emotions
welled up from the Finals performance of 2003, this
uniquely Brigadier production is again enhanced through
new staging and visual interpretation.
The last production of "Images in Time"
looks at the future of the Brigadiers and finds it...
HOT!! This production, entitled
"Evolution," is a departure in form for the Brigadiers,
though not in substance. The primary thrust of the music
remains power and excitement, but rather than interpret
a song, this production, like a tapestry, weaves many
ideas into one message. After a Wayne Downey original
introduction, this fiery piece references the many
talents and evolution of Chick Corea and Al Di Meola
through "Spain," "Little Flamenco" and "Mediterranean
Sundance," concluding with the intensity and raw emotion
of "Day Danse" This production reflects the continuing
evolvement of the Brigadiers as they strive to continue
to move the activity forward.
You will note that throughout the program there is a
continual reference to time, both past and present,
through the use of props and other visual
representations.
The entire administration, design team, instructional
staff and membership of the Brigadiers hope that you
find both our program and performance engaging, exciting
and fulfilling.

Reading Buccaneers Drum & Bugle Corps
Reading, PA
Blue Era
The defending DCA world champion Reading
Buccaneers celebrate their 50th anniversary
this year. To commemorate this auspicious milestone,
the Buccaneers are proud to present their 2007
production, Blue Era. The Bucs pay tribute to
five decades of tradition with a program showcasing what
we do best - entertainment, innovation, emotion and
excellence across all captions - but kicked up a few
notches! Years ago, the Buccaneers were dubbed "The
Balance in Blue" because of the corps' versatility in
handling varying musical styles. This year is no
exception, as the Buccaneers explore four distinct
styles, moods and textures, yet within the classical and
symphonic idiom that has become the corps' signature.
The Blue Era journey begins, in
unique style, with contemporary American composer Aaron
Jay Kernis' New Era Dance. There is nothing
subtle about this work - it's full of speed, volume,
attitude and fun. Next, the horn line and color guard
are featured in a rich, warm and moving take on Aaron
Copland's The Promise of Living, from his opera
The Tender Land. The Buccaneers' percussion
ensemble then takes center stage with an international
flavor in a spirited rendition of Danza Final:
Malambo from the Estancia dances, by Alberto
Ginastera. The Blue Era journey comes to a
grand, rousing and triumphant conclusion with George
Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. Every section of
the corps will have a moment to shine in this classic
piece, which will leave you humming it and smiling well
after the show is complete.
Field leadership is provided by head drum
major Josh Decker and assistant drum majors Diane Koenig
and Nigel Jeffrey.

The 2007 Hawthorne Caballeros
Present Music from "Carmen"
Over the past 61
years, the Hawthorne Caballeros have earned more titles
than any other All Age Drum & Bugle Corps. This includes
9 World Championships, 16 National Championships, over
50 State Championships and hundreds of regional and
local championships.
For the 2007 season,
the 2006 "Peoples Choice" Caballeros present the music
of Carmen. The Caballeros have integrated
our Latin motif into Carmen to accentuate the
brilliance and passion of the opera. Each of the 5 acts
will take you through a different emotion all within the
spectrum of this timeless piece - a Carmen like
you have never seen or heard before.
Act I will introduce
you to the Caballeros version of Carmen with a
powerful opening that builds to an exciting crescendo
while musically introducing the opera's characters. Act
II presents the sultry side of the 2007 Caballeros with
the seductive strains of the familiar "Habanera" theme.
Act III is a fiery yet sophisticated percussion feature
that allows interplay between all percussion sections
and the brass ensemble.
The piece ends with a
dramatic segue into Act IV. Act IV will enchant you with
"The Intermezzo", one of the most romantic melodies in
the opera featuring a mellophone solo that will leave
the audience breathless. Act V is the popular "Toreador"
featured with a Caballero twist that audiences will
remember for years to come.
Dennis Argul's brass
productions along with Gary Gill's percussion and Chris
Hales sideline ensemble arrangements provide a perfect
blend for Bobby Jones'
visual mastery and Ray Rhodes auxiliary prowess to
produce a show that will continue the crowd pleasing
Caballero legacy. They are supported by field and
technical staffs that were carefully chosen to meet the
high demand of the program. Gary Gill is the Staff
Coordinator.
The Caballeros are
honored to perform our 2007 production of Carmen. As
